IT Engineer

NovaTech Automation is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented IT Engineer to join our team. In this hands-on role, you'll keep our systems and networks running smoothly across multiple locations — supporting the people and infrastructure that power our work in the electric power industry.

What You'll Do

Cisco Networking

  • Configure, deploy, and maintain Cisco network switches in line with our security and organizational standards
  • Monitor network performance and proactively resolve issues to minimize downtime
  • Manage network segmentation, VLANs, and access control lists (ACLs)
  • Perform firmware upgrades, patch management, and configuration backups for network devices
  • Work with operations and engineering teams to support network connectivity for critical infrastructure systems

Help Desk Support – Hardware & Software

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for end-user hardware and software support, troubleshooting and resolving issues in a timely manner
  • Install, configure, and maintain workstations, laptops, peripherals, and software
  • Manage software licensing, application deployment, and updates
  • Maintain accurate records in the IT ticketing system, including support tickets, asset inventory, and resolution documentation
  • Provide on-site technical assistance and coordinate with vendors for repairs or replacements as needed

Linux Environment Support for Engineering

  • Provide technical support to engineering teams working in Linux-based environments, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and file systems on Linux servers and workstations
  • Support engineering-specific tools and workflows running on Linux platforms
  • Perform system monitoring, log analysis, and performance tuning
  • Assist with scripting and automation to improve operational efficiency

IT Security

  • Monitor systems and networks for security threats, anomalies, and vulnerabilities
  • Implement and enforce IT security policies, including endpoint protection, patch management, access controls, and password standards
  • Conduct periodic security assessments and vulnerability scans, and coordinate remediation efforts
  • Support compliance requirements for critical infrastructure environments
  • Help promote security awareness and provide guidance to end users on safe computing practices

What You Bring

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field — Required
  • 3+ years of experience in IT support or systems administration, with a background in networking and end-user support — Required
  • Hands-on experience configuring and maintaining Cisco network equipment — Required
  • Familiarity with IT security concepts, tools, and best practices in an enterprise or industrial environment — Required
  • Experience with Hyper-V and Microsoft Active Directory — Required
  • Experience supporting Linux-based environments, including command-line administration — Preferred
  • Experience in a utility, energy, or critical infrastructure environment — Preferred
  • Cisco CCNA certification or equivalent — Preferred
  • CompTIA Security+ or equivalent IT security certification — Preferred

  • TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing protocols — Required

  • Travel: Up to 10% to support other NovaTech locations
