ABOUT NOVATECH AUTOMATION
NovaTech Automation is a U.S.-based supplier of automation and engineering solutions for power utilities. We produce the easiest-to-use and best-supported automation products in the industry — from grid automation and power measurement to satellite clocks and ethernet switches. Our Orion, Bitronics, and Kronos product lines can be found in substations, on pole tops, in the enterprise, and at the grid edge, trusted by utilities around the world to keep the lights on. With a 10-year no-hassle warranty, a net-zero commitment, and 98.7% of clients saying they’d recommend us to a colleague, we build products — and relationships — that last.
THE ROLE
We’re looking for a Technical Sales Engineer who thrives at the crossroads of engineering and customer engagement. In this remote role, you’ll serve as the technical backbone of our sales team. You know the electric utility world: SCADA protocols, substation architecture, IEDs, and the complex needs that come with keeping the grid running. You translate that knowledge into winning proposals, compelling demonstrations, and trusted customer relationships.

This role requires 50–70% travel — you’re comfortable on the road (or in the air) and energized by face-to-face time with customers and at industry events.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Product & Technical Support
  • Become a go-to expert on Orion, Bitronics, and Kronos products and their real-world applications
  • Support customers with product integration and technical questions throughout the sales cycle
  • Provide hands-on technical support to field sales during active pursuits
Proposals & Customer Engagement
  • Lead and contribute to Bid & Proposal activities, including RFI and RFP responses
  • Develop and deliver product demonstrations that speak to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Support customer presentations, trade events, and product exhibits alongside the field sales team
  • Contribute technical content to marketing materials and customer system proposals
Trade Shows & Training
  • Represent NovaTech’s product portfolio at industry trade shows and exhibitions
  • Deliver customer training at events and on-site as needed
WHAT YOU BRING
Experience & Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering — Required
  • 4+ years of electric utility automation experience (or equivalent mix of education and experience) — Required
  • Hands-on experience with Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) in the utility space — Required
  • Solid working knowledge of SCADA protocols: DNP3, Modbus, IEC-61850 — Required
  • Familiarity with substation architecture, network communications, and serial communications — Required
  • Experience managing live chats, field testing, and troubleshooting — Required
  • Home base in the U.S. with ability to travel 50–70% — Required
  • Experience with Radius systems for ID management — Preferred
  • Familiarity with IT security best practices and databases — Preferred
Skills
  • Programming experience in Lua, Python, or C/C++ — Required
  • Technical knowledge of microgrid technologies, renewable energy systems, and energy management — Required
  • Strong communicator — written, verbal, and in front of a room — Required
  • Analytical mindset with sharp problem-solving skills — Required
  • Ability to make complex technology easy to understand for any audience — Required
WHO YOU ARE
  • A fast learner who picks up new products and protocols quickly and runs with them
  • Customer-focused — you understand utility clients’ constraints and earn their trust
  • A strong collaborator who works across Sales, Engineering, and Product teams
  • Driven and self-directed — you advance proposals and pursuits without waiting to be pushed
  • Adaptable — you read the room and adjust your approach based on the client and deal stage
  • Someone who leads with integrity in every client and colleague interaction

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
